Why a food scale is the whole trick

Grams, not cups

Every FODMAP portion limit is published in grams. A cup of broccoli can weigh 70 g or 120 g depending on how you chop it, and that gap is the difference between a safe plate and a stacked one.

The generator on this site works in per-plate grams for exactly this reason: it adds up every ingredient's share of its limit and keeps the total under 85% of the clinical threshold. None of that survives contact with a measuring cup.

What to look for

  • 1 g resolution. Anything coarser rounds away the margin.
  • A tare (zero) button. Put the bowl on, zero it, add one ingredient, read, zero again.
  • A display you can still see with a big bowl on top.

If a premium scale is more than you want to spend, the entry-level option below does the same job; it just sits under the bowl instead of pulling out.

The habit

  1. Bowl on, zero.
  2. Add the ingredient to the gram figure on your recipe card.
  3. Zero again before the next one.

Weigh once, eat calm.
