FodScale

Privacy

FodScale is a small site run by one person. This page says plainly what it keeps and why. It is not a legal document; if you want something removed, email info@fodscale.com and it will be.

Without an account

Your browser mints a random ID the first time you visit and keeps it in local storage. That ID is what ties your hearts, reviews, recipes and scores to you. It is not linked to your name or email, and it is sent only to fodscale.com. Clearing site data forgets it.

With an account

Signing in with an email address or a Google account stores that address, the date you signed in, and which browser IDs belong to it, so your saved things follow you between devices. Google sign-in gives us your email address and nothing else. We do not send newsletters or share addresses with anyone.

What the server logs

Standard web-server logs (address, page, time, browser) for a short period, used only to keep the site running and to rate-limit abuse of the scoring tool. Reviews store a salted hash of your ID, address and browser to stop duplicate reviews; the hash cannot be turned back into any of them.

Recipes you score

When you paste a recipe URL, FodScale fetches that page once and stores its title, its address and the score. It does not store the page, the ingredient list or the method, and it does not record who scored what beyond the ID that asked first. The one exception is the name of a food our library doesn't know yet, kept on its own with no amount so it can be added. A small AI model on our own server suggests a match for it; no recipe text is sent to any outside AI service. Scores are public.

Third parties

Fonts load from Google Fonts. Links on the Gear page are Amazon affiliate links; if you buy through them we may earn a commission, and Amazon's own privacy terms apply on their site.

If you allow it, Google Analytics counts visits and which pages are used, with cookies in your browser; Google's privacy terms apply to what it collects. Nothing is sent to Analytics until you say yes. In the EU, the UK and Switzerland the question comes from Google's own consent message; elsewhere it comes from ours. You can change your mind at any time under Cookie settings at the bottom of every page.

The pages carry Google AdSense's code, which shows that consent message and lets us apply for ads. No ads are shown yet. If that changes, this page will say so first.

Your rights

Wherever you are, you can ask for a copy of what is held under your ID or account, or have it deleted, by emailing info@fodscale.com from the address you signed in with, or with the ID shown in "Save my data".
